This week is our trip to St. Louis! We are going on the Amtrak train from WI Dells to St. Louis. We leave on Thursday and come back next Monday. I am soooo excited. How I will get through three days of work this week, I do not know! This is going to be our first trip with Heidi, our first trip on the train, our first time to St. Louis, so hopefully it all goes as planned.
We are staying at a hotel that has very good reviews, and it's only about a block from the Arch. Josh's parents are going with us, so we ended up getting a two-room suite so that Heidi will hopefully fall asleep in the hotel (her track record with hotels is not good, at all). We're not sure exactly what we're going to do while we're in town, but we're planning on going to the Arch (of course), the St. Louis Zoo and the museum that's over in Forrest Park. We're also hoping to go to the Budweiser brewery, possibly the Botanical gardens, and do some shopping at Union Station. It's going to take a little bit of planning since we won't have a rental car, so we're going to take the train or buses to all of our stops (a couple are within walking distance, though).
Of course, we're kind of most excited about taking Heidi swimming in the pool :)
Send us some good thoughts on Thursday that the train ride goes smoothly and Heidi Jean is a good traveler :) I'm sure I'll have lots of pictures to show upon return!
Oh yeah, and also send good weather thoughts, right now they are predicting rain!

Sounds like a fun trip. Definitely go to the Botanical Gardens and the Brewery. And if you can get there, check out Cahokia. Its only 4-5 miles east of downtown. Yeah, I know boring archaeology stuff, but it is, without question, the coolest archaeological site in North America. It has a phenomenal museum and is one of only two(?) UNESCO World Heritage sites in the US. It is approximately 1000 yrs old and at that time had a population larger than London. It has over 100 mounds, the largest of which stands 100 feet tall and its base covers an area larger than that of the Great Pyramid in Egypt. It was entirely made with basketloads of soil that were brought in by hand. From the top you can easily see the Arch and the rest of St. Louis. Even if you're not that into archaeology/history, it is something worth seeing. Check it out at http://www.cahokiamounds.com/

OH! That museum in Forest Park is not worth it the time. It was a neat building but the exhibits were limited and pretty lame, but then that was 5 yrs ago so it might be better...
I would highly recommend going to the Botanical Gardens or Cahokia over that museum. (Cahokia is pretty amazing - coming from a non-archaeologist!)
